The 2014 event filled to its 2500 capacity in just two weeks earlier this year, and race co-ordinator Jayne Lloyd expects that timescale to be bettered once again in 2015. Lloyd has been at the head of organsing the race since 2004 and says that judging by the feedback from the 2014 event that the race could well be full inside those 14 days:
“We took almost 700 entries for the race in the first day last year, which is pretty incredible, and after the overwhelmingly positive response to the 2014 event the 2015 is already showing a huge demand for places from those getting in touch with us about next year’s race! As an organising team we are still humbled by the popularity and the praise that the race gets from across the spectrum of runners, sponsors, partners and the local community. Social media is an ever important tool too and has really helped us as we are in daily contact with our runners via Facebook, Twitter and our website.”
Next year’s race will take place on Saturday the 24th of October, with its traditional start time of 10.30am. Regarding the local support and significance of the race, Jayne continued:
“This event means so much to the Llanberis and North Wales community, especially with the way the race has developed the event now extends into many countries and running communities. We are so proud of what Marathon Eryri has done for the area over the last 30-odd years and how many people’s lives we have touched. In 2015, runners can again expect an experience that is rivaled by few UK running events, once again we are freezing the entry fee at £30 too which offers fantastic value for money!”
