One UK’s toughest and most beautiful marathons, the Snowdonia Marathon Eryri has sold-out in record time once again, with over 2700 places being snapped up in less than 2 hours!
Next year’s race will be the 36th edition and takes place on Saturday October 27th.
After a move from the traditional New Years Eve date, race entries were available at 7am on Friday Dec 1st and saw an early-morning scurry for places. Race co-ordinator Jayne Lloyd’s explains:
“The entry process has always been a very busy one for us. Opening on New Years Eve at midnight made it very exciting but also had its issues. We also had the feedback that certain people in certain types of work simply could not get online, so we decided to change things to enable the best possible opportunity and opted for a December 1st date instead, and early morning.
However, the amount of runners applying for places was phenomenal, at one point there were almost 4,500 applicants trying to get into the system and this meant that some runners were experiencing delays, due to the sheer volume of online traffic. We are extremely sorry for all those who missed out, unfortunately there will always be disappointed people who don’t get a spot in the race.
As ever in 2018 will we see a large number of first-timers at the race and there are also runners who come back year after year and we hope to see many familiar faces again at the race next year.
2017 witnessed the biggest field ever taking to the roads of Snowdonia and completing what is considered one of the most stunning 26.2 mile races on the UK calendar. With an elevation of almost 3000ft the race is one of the most brutally tough too.
Jayne concludes:
“The support we receive year on year is inspiring. This year presented its challenges for sure and we addressed a huge amount of enquiries via social media and more traditional means last week, doing our best to help every one of them. We have a small team working on the entries and media and we pride ourselves on making sure that our community feel is maintained.
We are already planning for next year’s race, and hope to be able to announce some exciting news regarding our sponsor line-up too, and once again look forward to putting on a great Snowdonia Marathon Eryri in 2018.”
For those still wishing to gain a place in the race the marathon partners with a number of charities. Welsh cancer charity Tenovus Cancer Care are the event’s primary charity partner but there are also a limited number of places available with Parkinsons UK and Awyr Las (the HNS charity for North Wales)
