A record-breaking powerlifter and librarian is getting ready for her next marathon challenge.
Katy West, of Prestatyn, who works for Denbighshire County Council’s library service will take on the Snowdonia Marathon Eryri challenge , the final of three marathons that she is running for Tenovus Cancer Care, having already completed Chester Marathon last October and London Marathon in April.
A former powerlifter, Katy came second in the Global Powerlifting Committee World Powerlifting Championships in 2015, while competing for Team GB just 18 months after her first training session.
Having stopped competing and wanting a new challenge, Katy decided to turn her attention to running and signed up for three marathon to raise money for Tenovus.
“I’ve seen the fantastic work Tenovus Cancer Care do, particularly with mobile treatment units allowing cancer patients in rural communities to receive treatment close to home and also the Sing With Us Choirs, which are of great therapeutic benefit to cancer patients.”
Through her previous two marathons Katy has already raised £2265 for Tenovus and hopes to take that even higher with her marathon challenge in Snowdonia next weekend. To mark her achievement she will wear number 333 on race day.
“Working in a library, I’m at the heart of the community and I understand how valuable Tenovus are and I really wanted to raise money to keep that work going”
