RACE DAY INFO
The inaugural Snowdonia Marathon was held in 1982, and was conceived as a dramatic alternative to the numerous city and town races becoming so popular. The demanding and spectacular route, encircling Snowdon, Wales’ and England’s highest peak, has given the event a unique place in the annual marathon calendar ever since.
REGISTRATION

Registration will take place at the car park area of the former Electric Mountain Visitor Centre, Llanberis LL55 4TA at our Marathon Eryri event centre from midday until 10.00pm on Friday 23rd October 2026 and again from 7.00am until 10am on the morning of Saturday 24th October. This is when you will be given your race pack.
Runners can park at any one of a number of Pay Display car parks around the village. All are within easy walking distance of registration. Please be environmentally aware and try to share transport to the race wherever possible.

Please be aware that the weather at this time of year can be quite challenging and you are advised to carry some sorts of body cover with you whilst running.

Getting to Llanberis
Our race HQ is in Electric mountain, Llanberis, the start is just outside the village on the A4086. The race finishes in Llanberis which is located 66 miles from Chester, 103 miles from Manchester and 270 miles from London.

Access to Llanberis is easy. It’s only about one hour from the M56 which joins the A55 and it’s less than 15 minutes from the A55 itself.

Just follow the A55 west along the North Wales coast. There are substantial white on brown signs marking the Llanberis turn off (Junction 11). From here turn left onto the A5 and then sharp right onto the A4244. From the Midlands travel along the historic A5 from the M54. From the South you can take the scenic A470.

Travelling by car
As part of our Green Initiative we want to encourage all visitors to reduce their carbon emissions by decreasing the cumulative amount of miles driven to our event. One way of this is to share a lift with a fellow runner or spectator. Thanks to the wonders of the web you can now find fellow travelers at www.liftshare.com and www.racelifts.org. Just post a listing to share space in your car or look for space if you need a ride.

ADVICE FOR SPECTATORS

We like to encourage spectators along the route to cheer on our runners. However, the mere geography of the course can make this very difficult.

Here’s something you might not know about the winner’s trophy:

The Michael Forte Challenge Trophy
Every year since 1982, the winner of Marathon Eryri has been presented with the Michael Forte Challenge Trophy. The story of how it was given to the National Trust, to be used on this special occasion, is a very interesting one.

In 1982 Michael Forte donated a cup to the National Trust to be given to the winner of the Snowdonia Marathon. He approached Fattorini and Sons of Bradford who had recently celebrated their 150th anniversary and had received a lot of nationwide publicity, in particular for supplying the present FA Cup.

Michael Forte bought a trophy which had come to Fattorini a few years earlier in rather unusual circumstances. In 1922 a prosperous Huddersfield mill owner, who was a keen supporter of the Scouting movement, wanted to present an award for a nationwide Scout band competition.

He commissioned a trophy from Fattorini and Sons of Bradford which bore his name for posterity. The Scout leader would not agree to his request and the trophy was therefore never used.

Instead it was safely kept in the mill until some 50 years later when the mill owner’s son, when disposing of his father’s effects, sold the cup back to Fattorini. The large sterling silver trophy weighs 203oz and stands 33 inches tall. It is 53 ounces heavier and taller than the FA Cup and a perfect example of the work of the skilled Sheffield craftsman who made it.
